Beck's Staff Application

Recommended Posts

1. Desired staff position: Server Support

2. Your name (first name would suffice): Charles

3. Your age: 23

4. Your timezone: -6 CST, Chicago

5. Average amount of gameplay hours per day: 5~ Weekdays, 7+Sat/Sun. Some days I end up with a 13 hour work load if not longer and am unable to log in for more than an hour as I work the next morning, this happens 2-3 times per month.

6. Why you should receive the position:  The primary reason for my application is because I want people to know that I'm here to help. I've begun receiving PM's and Yells/Shouts in the CC asking for help specifically because they've seen that I am actively helping the new player base.

I've been around for 2 years, however I stopped playing around winter 2018/2019 and then didn't play again really until 2019 Halloween when I played for a few weeks then stopped. I was unable to play due to a lack of a computer with Java and as soon as I bought the laptop I currently have I picked the game back up, that was about a month ago. I've learned most of the new content that I missed and so I'm finally comfortable making this application.

My experience with RSPS staff teams is old and jaunted. It's been a few years, but I know the ins and outs of Staff Drama, Player vs Staff issues, siding with Staff, etc. I was a forum moderator for over a year on a pretty large server 6 years ago, and then a moderator for the team on servers after that until about 4 years ago when the community dissolved.  Seeing as I was a forum mod for over a year it may seem strange that I have so little forum activity here. I only got my forum account back after never getting the password reset over a year ago, and with a lack of in-game activity, came the forum inactivity. With the staff team I was on, your staff position always took priority. By this I mean that if someone needed help or there was a jail, issue to deal with etc, that came first. The game is always going to be available to play for us, but the players might not stick around if a staff member says "busy" just because they're PvMing or busy doing something else.  Helping comes first.

I've been working on making a name for myself so that if I were accepted it wouldn't be a shock to the player base. As much as some people deserve Staff sometimes, they may just not be known well enough for the player base to react well to promotions, and much as the players should trust the decisions of the staff team to promote, it reflects on the staff team as possibly not being "in the know" with the players and who the people might want. This is an opinion of mine that stems from the old staff teams I was on, and perhaps that has changed in the RSPS scene in the last 5 years, I wouldn't really know.

Ultimately if I were given Support, I'd be able to provide the players who seek and need help as much as they need it. A staff member is a servant to the players, they're there to make them feel like if something went wrong for them, it'll be okay. But also to enforce the rules and assure that if you break them, friend or not, you'll be warned and/or punished.

Hey there Beck, want to start by saying thanks for your interest in joining the team, but want to break a part some of the application.

I remember you from back in the day and I do remember your hiatus as well as you were on my Iron's friends list. Although you are back I would really like to see you around longer than a month before I plus one or anything happens as one solid month of playtime is good but as you said in the part below you may not be that well known but you're working on making a name for yourself which is probably the biggest thing because you need the respect of the player base.

Agree to disagree to a point. We started the game the same as everyone else, and that's to have fun. Yes in my opinion the player base and helping players comes first, but we are allowed to PvM and what not and be busy at times, that being said the current staff team and I would gladly help others even if we were PvM'ing or anything really. Will we be slow to answer?, yes sometimes but that's very rare and we're usually never "busy" for any period longer than fighting a single boss (one minute at most.) Yes players may not stick around as a staff member is "busy" but that's not always the case cause most of the time when I've seen staff not able to help has been when they're already helping someone else in there messages already. Not saying that what you said isn't true at all, I've just witnessed a different side. Only time I've told someone I'm busy has been when trying to convince another member of the community to not kill themselves and I still ended up helping them. Its just really a priority thing obviously but, I'm more inclined to save a real life in the world than help someone with what they should spend 5b on. I've never seen a current member of the staff team refuse to help someone because they are "busy"

I'd leave opinions like this off applications, I know it's an opinion and to take it as just but it makes you seem out of the loop as well. The staff team know's the players that help and also try to convince the ones they that are helpful to apply. Ultimately to my knowledge you won't be just offered a position on Runex's staff team unless you show interest in becoming staff by applying through the forums. I understand why you have those feelings but don't be so quick to judge other servers just because you've had poor experiences with others in the past. If you see this being a thing with the staff of RuneX I'd be glad to hear your opinion on it ingame or through discord, just don't want a full out conversation on a staff application.

Overall I think that you could be an alright candidate to become staff but at the moment going to give you a -1 as I'd like to see you stick around a lot longer before being offered any type of position. I've seen you ingame here or there but as you stated you've only been back for around a month so some older players and newer ones might know you but the ones in your gap of playtime also need to know who you are and see how helpful you are. If you can manage to stick around and continue to be helpful I'd be glad to give you my support on your next app :)

I like the details that you’ve added into your staff app, prior my ban I had never really seen you around as much even in the discord up until your return to runex,

This being said, I’ve only ever seen you mainly meme/make humorous general chat with other players, Which is figuratively speaking, not a bad thing as it shows that you are easy to get along with and approachable which are both good traits for staff.

Your forum activity isn’t on par to where it could be either.

I personally think that having a member of staff that isn’t overly known by all players could go different ways, older players might not have that respect value towards you than a known player getting the position.

This being said, I’d still like to offer my support on this application but still to recommend that you increase your activity/making yourself known.

TL/DR: +1

Hi I don't really know you that well, but looking through the 2 reactions so far. I fully agree with Huff.  If you want to have a position as a staff member get more active and for a longer time, even though you came back from a long time ago. Alot of things have changed in that period of time.

Don't see you talk that often or help players in cc, could be because of different timezones. Forum activity can be pumped up to, show that you actually wanna join and not just fill in an app and hope for the best.

So ima -1 this, good luck nonetheless.
