  3. Message from the developers: We were happy to finally release The Nightmare update yesterday, which also included a ton of other content too! But as some of you may know, we unfortunately experienced a handful of issues. We want to be transparent and clarify some things that were going on behind the scenes which complicated the process. Usually when we work on updates, our procedure with the Suggestion Squad for updates is: We release a "private update list" to the team (similar to the forum topics for updates) so they know what to test We then open up a "test world" where members can test and report bugs / issues that they encounter or give feedback The development team reviews these reports / suggestions , and fixes / improves things accordingly Finally, we release a second "preliminary patch" after these fixes, so the members can then do final testing Unfortunately during the development of this update, right around steps 1 & 2 we noticed some suggestion squad members were using the knowledge from this update to give themselves an advantage on the live game. This included buying out items in the trading post for the new upcoming enchantments, etc. This was the most important rule of the squad and it was broken by more than one member. This was discovered in the midst of our development, and as a result Nate & I felt that we couldn't continue releasing too much information or access to the team until we knew exactly which members could / couldn't be trusted with their rank. This led to us skipping the far less testing and quality assurance. We'd also like to point out that the members who performed insider trading have been dealt with, and we've confiscated things such as items purchased as a form of "insider trading" Moving ahead (suggestion squad changes): With all of that being said, we're making changes to the infrastructure of our suggestion squad, and we're raising the standards expected for entry and positioning on the team. This includes, but not limited to: Demoting members from the group that were caught in the incident described above Demoting members who've been relatively inactive compared to our high contributing members This is an unfortunate, but necessary form of clearing house. By lowering the team's headcount only to what's absolutely necessary, we have less members to keep tabs on for spotting abuse / information leaks. Withholding future update information that is heavily related to the economy, and limit it to our most trusted members We apologize for any confusion, and we are deeply disappointed to have to make these changes in the first place. At the very least, we hope that this level of transparency will provide insight to those of you who were not aware of what was going on behind the scenes. Now, time for the good stuff... The Nightmare (changes / improvements): (NEW) MVP System: This MVP system only applies in global instances or private instance with 5 players Damage MVP: The player who deals the most damage will receive a +25% (+15% in private) drop rate bonus for that kill Tank MVP: The player who receives the most damage will receive a +15% (+5% in private) drop rate bonus for that kill Note: These MVP bonuses do NOT stack if one player happens to achieve both MVP titles at once (NEW) Nightmare pets: The Nightmare has received a standard boss pet (legendary pet) which is also in its collection log The Night Terror has received an epic boss pet which is also in its (new) collection log Pet effect: Restores player health to full when below 10 hitpoints (3 minute cooldown) - Does NOT activate in the wilderness! Other changes / improvements: Added imbuing stones to The Nightmare and The Night Terror drop tables Added a "hard" daily money making activity for The Nightmare kills (discluding practice mode, of course) Added a "practice mode" for private Nightmare instances (ability to invite friends, just like normal private Nightmare) Added a "completion time" display to Nightmare (similar to raids) which tracks your personal records for each type (global / private / night terror) To view your personal records, simply type ::nightmare Unfortunately, completion times prior to this patch were not saved Nightmare drop rates made easier in general, for common, uncommons, and rares (both global & private instances) Nightmare in solo mode now has a 25% chance for receiving a 2X drop roll Nightmare in solo mode is now slightly less difficult (better hitpoint scaling, etc.) Death coffer cost cap per item has been reduced from 250M to 150M Death coffer cost for all iron men now have a 33% discount Soulsplit no longer works on Nightmare totems/pillars Soulsplit now only heals 1/2 the original amount in non-solo Nightmare instances Inquisitor mace now deals +7.5% damage to Nightmare This boost stacks with all other inquisitor pieces, which also give +7.5% As a result, the full inquisitor set is by far the best loadout for Nightmare, granting +47.5% damage against Nightmare (blessing included) Added a "request-backup" option to Nightmare when he's sleeping in Global mode When you click it, it will announce to the server that 'x' players are requesting backup at global Nightmare This only works if there's at least 5 people in the instance Fixed issue that caused server lag / nulling via nightmare spam clicking Fixed issue that caused instances to break / behave weirdly on rare occassions Gameplay improvements / fixes: Weakness system (improvements): Boss weakness efficacy reduced, and should no longer feel as if it's effecting things as much as before. IMPORTANT NOTE: To clarify weakness and put to bed some rumors, the system adjusts Hit Frequency for using the correct style. Hit frequency means when it rolls your hit and it ends up being a low roll, it rerolls to try and give you a higher one. New weakness have also been added: Cerberus has been given a crush weakness Great olm (CoX) has been given a stab weakness Other improvements: NEW: The Runex Cape now stacks drop rate bonuses with the cape you bind it to! For example, if you bind your Runex cape (+10%) with your Mythic cape (+5%) you'll have a +15% drop rate bonus!   4. The Nightmare Boss The Nightmare has entered Runex, debuting as the server's most dangerous challenging boss to date! Join the action by teleporting to "The Nightmare" lobby (page two of boss teleports) When you kill The Nightmare with a group, every player who survived the entire fight and dealt 250+ damage will receive a drop! Not only does it include new exclusive drops, but you are also granted the option of multiple different modes! Global: An entirely public instance, with a capacity of up to 50 players at once! This version of Nightmare has slightly more rarity in its drop rates. You can only join when The Nightmare is sleeping and waiting to wake up for the next fight (3 minute timer) Party: Create or join a private party to fight The Nightmare with up to 4 friends (5 total players). A great feature with party mode is that you can skip the 3 minute wait timer by waking up The Nightmare! Night Terror (hardcore): A more challenging version of Nightmare, unlocked after 100+ Nightmare kills. Includes better drop rates, and some exclusive rewards! The Night Terror works in the form of party mode (1-5 players max, etc.) Death Penalties This boss is not meant to be easy! If you die in Global or Party mode, your items will be held in a "death coffer" and will cost quite a bit of gold to get them back! (Before entering, you will be told how much your setup would cost to recover if you died, and you'll be asked to confirm & agree to the risk) If you die in Night Terror mode, everything except your most valuable item is lost forever! Untradeable/autokeep items are held in the coffer though, for 2X the usual cost to redeem New to the boss and afraid of the consequences? There's a Practice mode under the Global category where you can fight The Nightmare boss without a death penalty but you will not receive loot or killcount Exclusive Rewards Inquisitor armor Each piece boosts damage against The Nightmare and Night Terror by +7.5%. Includes a full set effect, which grants +10% damage and accuracy with maces, bludgeons, hammers, and mauls. Inquisitor mace Special attack deals heavy damage and heals you for 50% of the damage dealt Inquisitor blessing Exclusively obtained from The Night Terror. Increases mace, maul, bludgeon and hammer accuracy by +10% and damage by +10% Eldritch orb Attaches to the Nightmare staff to create the Eldritch staff Special attack costs 75% and steals the foes prayer. In PvM it has a 1/5 chance to restore your prayer by 10% of the damage dealt! Harmonised orb Attaches to the Nightmare staff to create the Harmonised staff Increases attack speed by +1 but reduces damage by 15% for the Modern spellbook Volatile orb Attaches to the Nightmare staff to create the Volatile staff Special attack costs 50% and deals devastating damage. But, it didn't actually work like this in many cases. Because of all the drop rate bonus stacks added from updates over the years, restrictions were added which caused a lot of confusion: Drop rate cap at 90% (anything at 100%+ would cause a "guarantee drop" so we had to restrict this possibility). A rather disorganized / confusing "curve system" which would result in diminishing returns after 50%+ drop rate bonus. This was added to prevent too many items entering the game, but this sloppy solution caused confusion. Drop rate bonuses didn't feel like they were helping the way they should, leading to a lot of confusion for players. This is a big reason why we decided to overhaul the bonus system entirely (see below).. The good news (overhaul): We've now changed to a multiplicative system, which not only frees up room for more new content w/ drop rate bonuses (without harsh detriment to the eco), but also allows for a much more transparent system that can be easily understood by players! How to calculate your bonus under the new system: You will notice that your bonus in the equipment screen is now over 100% (this is because 100% = default / no bonus, rather than 0%) Here's how you can calculate how it effects your drop rates: Example: If a drop chance is 1/500 and your drop rate bonus is 175%.. 500 / 1.75 = 285.7 = 286 (rounded up) New drop rate: 1/286 Note: Drop rate bonuses for most items in game have been scaled up, in order to better suite this new system Note: Drop rate bonuses only apply for drops that are rare+ (1/50 chance or up) You can now view your drop rate bonus (includes most passive boosts like luck horns as well) Enchantment Chest Additions The enchantment chest's interface has been given a great overhaul! Enchantments are now categorized, and can also be individually searched for more convenient navigation And yes, there are some brand new game changing enchantments to go along with this Imbuing crystal Costs an imbuing stone, with a 10% success chance!     Patch Notes: Prayer drain: Fix & Explanation After a recent patch, a lot of players have been reporting that prayer is draining far more than before. This was due to a discovery we made, where soulsplit and turmoil were draining far less than they should (only 10 prayer points per minute) But unfortunately, our patch for this gave them far more of a drain rate than they should have We've made proper adjustments to this, which should hopefully be a noticeable improvement: Soulsplit drain rate reduced from 40 pts. per min to 30 pts. per min Turmoil drain rate reduced from 50 pts. per min to 40 pts. per min Pet accessories: Diminishing returns On June 4th we made a patch to diminishing returns, where they were given a 15% reduction instead of 25% It was brought to our attention (and verified) that on 3x and 4x accessory stacks, the diminishing returns were +15% higher than they should've been This issue has been identified and fixed Accessory sets such as 4x prayer accessories should now restore +7 points rather than +6 Summer Event: Fixes and improvements You will now be kicked from the battlefield minigame if you are inactive for 10+ minutes You will no longer receive the "winning bonus" if you switched teams during the round Added new "sun shirt" and "beach shirt" cosmetic items to the event chest Added sun/beach shorts and shirts to the PoH costume room toy box Removed the iron man crash mechanic for summer elementals, meaning you'll receive the drop just as long as you deal majority damage Fixed issues with venom/familiar/etc. damage on summer elementals Fixed super-soaker's level 40 range requirement (it now has no requirements) Fixed a bug where lunar void pieces were not giving the proper void set effect Fixed a bug where instanced Kalphite queen did not give summer gems on kills during the "bossing" cycle activity Fixed a bug where you'd teleport to both the boss lair and the minigame via Oasis pool Other / Miscellaneous Removed "burn" damage from Legendary Zone lava eel fishing Removed the AoE attack for Callisto/Venantis/Vet'ion in the VIP zone Improved double loot chance from Skiller's blood orb on rogue's chest (to match the advertised 10% chance) Fixed Skiller's blood orb experience boost on rogue's chest Fixed a bug where you couldn't operate Cape of myths (i) from your inventory Fixed a bug at Tekton that allowed parties to end the invulnerability phase from mining just one rock
  17. Content Updates: Summer Event 2020 It's finally here, we're excited to finally release the RuneX's 2020 summer event! Earn summer gems from a wide variety of activities, including a unique limited time minigame! Summer battlefield (skilling minigame) There is an endless war between the Wizards and Warriors. You can join this war by jumping into the Oasis located at home You will be auto-assigned to one of the two teams based on how many players are on each (auto-balanced) In the battlefield, there are countless wizard and warrior NPCs attacking eachother When an enemy NPC dies, your team earns a point for that round. Your job is to participate and help your team win! Every 30 minutes, the round ends and team scores will reset During the round, the team with the leading score will receive +10% gems from the minigame activities When the round ends, players on the winning team earn 1,500 gems each (losing team earns 750 gems) You only receive this round ending bonus if you participated enough during that round! There are many ways to earn gems and help your team win! Bandages With an axe, you can chop down White trees in the battlefield for white tree remnants (woodcutting exp) Use these remnants to craft bandages at your team's base (crafting exp) Bandages can be used to heal ally NPCs, which will earn you summer gems! Weapon crafting Regular combat does not work in this minigame! You must craft special weapons to fight enemy NPCs Mine Ancient rocks in the battlefield and smelt them into Ancient metal at your team's base You can then use the ancient metal craft the event weapon at your team's base These weapons degrade after certain amount of hits, requiring you to craft more of them If you leave and re-join the minigame, any of the event weapons in your bank/inventory/etc. will turn to dust! Upgrade potions Pick white/red/blue berries from special bushes in the battlefield (farming experience) You can take these berries to your base to craft potions at your team's base (herblore experience) Offensive potion (2 white berries, 1 red berry) You can use this potion to temporarily boost ally NPCs damage (earns you gems) Alternatively, you can drink this potion to upgrade your damage Defensive potion (2 white berries, 1 blue berry) You can use this potion to upgrade ally NPCs damage soaking (earns you gems) Alternatively, you can drink this potion to upgrade your damage soaking Skilling potion (5 white berries) You can drink this potion to upgrade the speed of your skilling within the minigame Ballista air strikes Mine Ancient rocks in the battlefield and smelt them into Ancient metal at your team's base Use the Ancient metal to craft a Giant javelin at your team's base! Take the giant javelin to your team's Ballista and load it (construction experience) The general will give you a Ballista horn which you can choose to blow when you're ready Once the horn is blown, the ballista will prepare to fire at the location your player is in The ballista's strike will damage all enemy NPCs in that vicinity, granting you gems based on how much total damage was dealt Sun-burned citizens Use a super-soaker to spray them with water so they can cool off, and they'll grant you rewards! You can obtain a super-soaker by speaking with the Vacationer located at home! There are three different citizens one being the most common, one being uncommon, and another being rare Uncommon citizens give bonus gems and a chance for a bag of riches Rare citizens give a lot more bonus gems, and a chance for a summer mystery box Summer elementals (wilderness activity) There are now Summer elementals roaming around the wilderness! Use a super-soaker to spray them with water, which kills them for summer gems and other great loot! World bosses (Solar & Lunar demon) This year we have two bosses spawning together as one! Every four hours, the Solar and Lunar demon will rise You are required to use a Super-soaker in order to attack thesm They will take turns performing attacks. One firing range projectiles, and the other one firing magic As usual, every player who deals damage to world bosses will receive a drop! Event keys & Event task scrolls (Integrity change) There has been an ongoing issue with recent events, where players stockpile key chests and task scroll caskets until events release in order to take advantage of the "key chest" and "task scroll" cycle activity events. While we understand this may upset some of you who treated this as a "meta", we did not originally intend for so much event currency to enter the game from gameplay that wasn't during the event To keep things at an even playing field for this event (and future events), the "key chest" and "task scroll" activities have been removed. We've added this brand new Event key and Event task scroll feature, which rewards grinding during events! Event keys During events you will now receive "event" variants of chest keys These keys will have a little event icon next to them (see above) Example #1: Instead of receiving "brimstone keys" during brimstone tasks, you receive "event brimstone keys" Example #2: Crystal keys from NPC drop tables will drop as "event crystal keys", and crystal key loop/tooth halves are given as "event key halves" If you open chests with these keys at any time during the event, you will be given event currency: Event crystal keys: 50-100 gems (rare chance for 500) Event lava keys: 75-125 gems (rare chance for 1,000) Event brimstone keys: 75-150 gems (rare chance for 1,000) Event larran's keys: 100-150 gems (rare chance for 1,000) Event task scrolls If you complete task scrolls during events, you will now receive event variants which grant currency when opened! Easy casket (event): 500 gems Medium casket (event): 1,000 gems Hard casket (event): 1,500 gems Elite casket (event): 2,000 gems Master casket (event): 3,000 Kharazi minigame additions/changes Blood shaman robes added to the new Jungle blood money exchange Requires Blood diamonds as an additional currency to create robe pieces Blood diamonds are extremely rare, and only obtainable from Blood shamans and the Jungle demon The bottom half of Kharazi jungle is now single zone combat. No longer multi! New Blood chinchompas added to the enchantment chest at home! Requires 50 blood diamods, 10K BM, and 1K Kharazi chinchompas (70% success) This chinchompa restores health by 10% of damage dealt (no healing cap)!
